Namibia & Botswana by road

Two countries. One considered overland journey.

Nine nights in Namibia lead into six nights in Botswana. The route protects a Ghanzi stop instead of forcing Windhoek to Maun into one excessive day, then uses a suitable 4x4 for the rough-road safari sector. Private Namvic road travel is combined with shared specialist and lodge-operated activities where stated.

An open two-country route

Windhoek to Victoria Falls town.

A truthful sequence diagram, not a basemap or claimed road geometry. Select any numbered stage for its role in the journey. The line remains open: the safari does not return to Windhoek after Botswana.

Road stage 1

Windhoek → Sossusvlei

Approximately 303 km through the central highlands, with road and comfort stops shaping the day.

Road stage 2

Sossusvlei → Swakopmund

Approximately 350 km via Solitaire and Walvis Bay to the Atlantic coast.

Road stage 3

Swakopmund → Mowani

Approximately 355 km via Uis; Twyfelfontein depends on arrival and opening times.

Road stage 4

Mowani → Onguma

Approximately 524 km and roughly 9–10 hours overall through Etosha: an early, genuinely long day managed against gates and daylight.

Road stage 5

Onguma → Windhoek

Approximately 509 km south, with the Windhoek night reserved for rest before Botswana.

Road stage 6

Windhoek → Ghanzi

A full border-crossing travel day. Ghanzi is a deliberate overnight, not a scheduled activity stop.

Road stage 7

Ghanzi → Maun

The second road stage reaches Maun for preparation, not a fly-in or central Delta island stay.

Road stage 8

Maun → Khwai

Rough 4x4 travel, approximately four hours before delays, longer stops or adverse conditions.

Road stage 9

Khwai → Savuti

A rough bush-road sector planned for daylight and safe lodge arrival.

Road stage 10

Savuti → Chobe

Wildlife and track conditions affect progress; lodge experience slots depend on actual arrival.

Road stage 11

Chobe → Victoria Falls town

A lodge-arranged cross-border transfer, planned at about two hours but dependent on border formalities.

Day by day

Sixteen days, with every road stage made clear.

Meals are described by each overnight: breakfast is normally served the following morning. Named stays and activities are illustrative of the proposed journey and remain subject to written supplier and operational confirmation.

Meet a Namvic representative on arrival and transfer privately to Windhoek. Settle in at your own pace; no paid city tour or extra excursion is scheduled. The guide, vehicle and pickup timing are confirmed with the final travel arrangements.

Proposed inclusions

Clear before confirmation

  • ✓Private Namvic road travel with a driver-guide and suitable 4x4 from the Windhoek arrival through the own-vehicle Chobe sector
  • ✓Airport pickup coordinated to the confirmed arrival flight and road transport across the described Namibia and Botswana route
  • ✓Meals exactly as stated for each overnight; breakfast is normally served the following morning
  • ✓Namvic-guided Sossusvlei and Deadvlei exploration and a shared specialist Living Desert excursion
  • ✓A full Etosha day with the private Namvic guide and vehicle; no separate lodge drive implied
  • ✓Khwai Full Board & Activities package with four shared scheduled activity entitlements across two nights
  • ✓The proposed Ghoha Hills one-night stay and Chobe half-board stay; actual activity inclusions and fees confirmed in the written proposal

  • ✓Drinking water during Namvic road travel
  • ✓Lodge-arranged one-way cross-border transfer to the agreed Victoria Falls town drop-off

Not included

Kept explicit

  • —International and domestic flights, bush flights and any Windhoek-to-Maun airfare
  • —Visas, passports, travel insurance, medical costs and evacuation beyond any limited lodge package provision
  • —Twyfelfontein entrance and any required local-site guide, paid directly if the timing-dependent visit proceeds
  • —Ballooning, scenic flights, coastal cruises, Sandwich Harbour and any excursion not explicitly listed as included
  • —Drinks unless a named lodge package expressly includes them; premium drinks remain excluded at Ghoha Hills
  • —Tips, gratuities, spa treatments, laundry except where the Ghoha package includes it, and personal expenses
  • —Victoria Falls admission, sightseeing, accommodation, meals after Chobe breakfast, airport transfer and onward flights
  • —Private lodge activity vehicles or private exclusivity on the final cross-border transfer unless separately quoted

Before confirmation

Operational detail matters here.

  • This is an evergreen proposed route, not a booking confirmation. Lodges, room categories, activity slots, road access and the final price must be reconfirmed in writing.
  • Before accepting the journey, Namvic must reconfirm cross-border operating permissions, permits, the suitable vehicle, guide allocation and all supplier services. No particular guide is guaranteed.
  • Private Namvic road guiding does not make the Living Desert excursion, Khwai activities, Ghoha drives, Chobe experiences or final town transfer private.
  • Day 7 is a genuinely long Mowani-to-Onguma transfer through Etosha. Daylight and gate management take priority over a relaxed game-drive pace.
  • Khwai is a land-based road safari, not a central Okavango Delta island overnight. Mokoro activity is water-dependent; full-day Moremi availability and participant minimum need written supplier confirmation.
  • Wildlife, road conditions, sand, weather, border queues and supplier schedules can alter timing and activity order. No specific sighting or exact arrival is guaranteed.
  • The final transfer ends at an agreed Victoria Falls town point. Timing, border arrangements and the exact drop-off must be reconfirmed; do not plan a tight onward flight.
