Day by day
Itinerary structure
Arrive in Windhoek
Accommodation: River Crossing Lodge
Settle into a lodge outside the city and ease into the journey with an unhurried first afternoon. Arrival arrangements and the briefing schedule follow your confirmed flight times.
Windhoek to Etosha South
Accommodation: Okaukuejo campsite
Collect your equipped 4x4, complete the handover and travel north to Etosha. Set up camp at Okaukuejo; time permitting, enjoy a first wildlife drive or visit the camp waterhole.
A full day in Etosha
Accommodation: Okaukuejo campsite
Explore the park’s waterhole network at your own pace. Allow time to wait, watch and follow the day’s conditions rather than rush between sightings. Return to the same campsite for a second night.
Western Etosha and Hobatere
Accommodation: Hobatere Lodge
Travel through western Etosha and continue to Hobatere, exchanging your campsite for a lodge stay before the journey turns north toward Kaokoland.
Opuwo and expedition preparations
Accommodation: Opuwo Country Lodge
Continue to Opuwo and meet your Namvic guide. Review the remote route, prepare the vehicles and supplies, and enjoy a lodge evening before the guided convoy begins.
Into Kaokoland
Accommodation: Marble Community Campsite
Depart Opuwo behind the Namvic lead vehicle and travel toward Marble Community Campsite. The scenery becomes more remote and progress depends increasingly on track conditions. Safe travel takes priority over a fixed arrival time.
Marienfluss Valley
Accommodation: Camp Syncro
Continue through rugged north-western terrain toward Marienfluss. Open valley landscapes and mountain horizons lead toward a campsite near the Kunene River.
Hartmann Valley
Accommodation: Authorised wilderness camp
Explore the stark landscapes of Hartmann Valley with your guide. The precise route and overnight location depend on permission, safe access and current conditions.

South to Purros
Accommodation: Purros Canyon Camp
Travel through changing desert scenery toward Purros. Dry valleys, rocky hills and remote tracks make this a demanding but memorable stage. Desert-adapted wildlife may be encountered, although sightings are never guaranteed.
Into the Hoanib wilderness
Accommodation: Authorised wilderness camp
Continue into the Hoanib landscape, where ephemeral river corridors support vegetation and wildlife in arid country. Your guide selects the route and camp according to local access, environmental conditions and safety.
A full day around the Hoanib
Accommodation: Authorised wilderness camp
A second night gives the journey breathing room. Explore with your guide, responding to conditions and wildlife information while keeping a respectful distance from animals.

Palmwag and a lodge night
Accommodation: Palmwag Lodge
Leave the remote section and continue to Palmwag. The guided convoy ends on arrival. Settle into lodge accommodation after the camping stages.
Brandberg country
Accommodation: Ondjamba Hills
Resume independent self-drive toward Brandberg. Enjoy the changing Damaraland scenery and a relaxed lodge stop before continuing south.

Camp beneath Spitzkoppe
Accommodation: Spitzkoppe Community Restcamp
Travel to Spitzkoppe’s granite peaks. Depending on arrival time and local access rules, enjoy short walks, photography and the evening light before settling into your campsite.
Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund
Accommodation: Swakopmund guesthouse or hotel selected for your dates
Leave the granite peaks for the Atlantic coast. This two-night coastal break avoids a direct Spitzkoppe-to-Sesriem transfer and provides time to rest and restock before continuing into the Namib.
A full day on the coast
Accommodation: Same Swakopmund guesthouse or hotel
Enjoy a full day based in Swakopmund. A dolphin cruise and Sandwich Harbour combination can be arranged from Walvis Bay, subject to availability and conditions, or spend a relaxed day exploring town and the waterfront.
Swakopmund to Sesriem
Accommodation: Oshana Campsite
Continue south through the Namib toward Sesriem. Allow a full travel day with sensible breaks and a daylight arrival, then prepare for the dune excursion the next morning.

Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
Accommodation: Oshana Campsite
Explore Sossusvlei and Deadvlei early, according to the applicable gate times and conditions. Choose dune walks to suit the weather and your energy, with Sesriem Canyon possible if time allows.

Return to Windhoek
Drive back to Windhoek for vehicle return and onward arrangements. A same-day flight is suitable only if the driving time, vehicle return during operating hours and airport check-in margin can all be accommodated safely; otherwise add a final Windhoek night.

Important planning notes
- !This is an expedition-style holiday with demanding driving days, simple camping conditions and active participation—not a fully guided lodge tour.
- !The early stages through Etosha to Opuwo are independent. Guide support runs from Opuwo departure on Day 6 until Palmwag arrival on Day 12; the route from Palmwag to Windhoek is independent self-drive.
- !Property names are examples, not guaranteed reservations. Suitable alternatives may be proposed for your dates.
- !The six remote camping nights from Marble to the Hoanib form a full-board camping programme; exact meal coverage on transition days is confirmed in the quotation.
- !Rain, flash flooding, heat, sand and changing tracks can affect access. Remote travel uses recognised tracks and authorised access routes only, and wild camping is subject to permission.
- !This route is planned around your dates and is not a guaranteed year-round departure. Namvic may recommend alternative dates or camps, revise the route, or change or omit a section where access or safety requires it.
- !Driving through flowing water or floodwater is not part of this itinerary.
- !Applicable high-risk sections require Namvic’s written route approval and Platinum cover on each affected rental day. High-risk travel remains at the renter’s own risk under the agreed rental terms; neither Platinum nor a guide provides blanket cover for damage, negligence or prohibited driving.
- !Transfer arrangements, vehicle cover, excess or security holds, and all other inclusions and exclusions are specified in the written quotation.
- !Travel insurance covering the planned activities and remote medical evacuation is strongly recommended. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
